701 CONTEMPORARY CENTER FOR THE ARTS

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

The 701 Center for Contemporary Art Artist-in-Residence Program provides artists with a dynamic environment to develop new work while engaging with the cultural community of Columbia. Designed to support both emerging and established artists, the residency offers time, space, and resources for creative exploration and experimentation. Residents are encouraged to expand their artistic practices through research, production, and dialogue, often culminating in public presentations, exhibitions, or community-based programming that connect artists directly with local audiences.

Beyond studio production, the residency emphasizes meaningful exchange between artists and the broader community. Visiting artists participate in artist talks, workshops, and collaborative activities that foster educational opportunities and cultural dialogue. Through this structure, the program not only supports individual artistic development but also strengthens Columbia’s contemporary art ecosystem by introducing new ideas, perspectives, and practices to the region’s creative landscape.
